Nebraska Tax Deadlines: Individual & Corporate Filing Guide

Nebraska Tax Deadlines: Individual & Corporate Filing Guide

Nebraska tracks the federal calendar on filing dates but grants a longer automatic extension than the federal six months — seven months for every entity. It is also mid-way through a multi-year rate cut and offers a broadly retroactive elective PTE tax.

Nebraska Tax Deadlines at a Glance (2026)

Entity Type

Return Due

Extended Due Date

Individuals (1040N)

April 15, 2026

October 15, 2026

C Corporations (1120N)

April 15, 2026

November 16, 2026 (7-month)

S Corporations (1120-SN)

March 16, 2026

October 15, 2026 (7-month)

Partnerships (1065N)

March 16, 2026

October 15, 2026 (7-month)

The corrections to note are on the extensions. Nebraska grants up to a seven-month extension, so the C-corporation 1120N extends to November 16, 2026 (not October 15), and the S-corp and partnership extension runs to October 15, 2026 — not the federal six-month September 15. Filing dates are correct: individuals and C corporations April 15, and S-corps/partnerships March 16, 2026 (March 15 is a Sunday).

Rates Are Falling to 3.99%

Nebraska’s top individual income tax rate is 5.20% for 2025 (down from 5.84%), across four brackets, and the top corporate rate is also 5.20%. Both are on a legislated glide path to 3.99% by 2027. Confirm the rate each year, as it changes annually.

The Elective PTET

Nebraska’s elective pass-through entity tax (LB 754, 2023) is unusually retroactive — available for tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2018 — and lets S corporations and partnerships pay at the entity level at the top individual rate, 5.20%, for SALT-cap relief. The election is made annually and is irrevocable for the year.

Estimates, Extensions, and Penalties

Individual estimated payments (1040N-ES) are due April 15, June 15, September 15, 2026, and January 15, 2027. The 2026 interest rate on underpayments is 8% per year. Nebraska’s extensions cover filing only — tax is due at the original date.
